A divided Anna City Council voted March 8 to approve an agreement New Line Skateparks to help design a skating facility at Slayter Creek Park.  The proposed $1.5 million skatepark would be located along a channel on the east side between the park and Anna Middle School stadium. It will be funded by a 2021 bond program.

One of those on the voting in favor of the project was councilman Stan Carver.  He says that the city has a variety of skaters of all ages who will benefit from the project. He believes the new park will be a great place for families and friends to come together in engage in an activity that is growing in popularity.

“The other part that I like about it is that you can got out to a skatepark on a whim and start skating without any organization” he says. “This gives a nice contract to baseball, football, and eventually soccer.”

The park will be open to not only skateboards, but also non-motorized scooters and bicycles. Plans are also being made to incorporate features that accommodate those with special needs.

New Line Skateparks is a Canadian based firm that has built facilities across North America. Among them are facilities in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Roanoke and Arlington.

Chili’s Coming to Anna

Also on March 8, the Anna City Council formally approved a site plan that will bring a Chili’s restaurant to the city. It will be located in the Anna Town Center development just north of Panda Express. No information has been released yet regarding an opening date or the start of construction.
