Welcome to Tuesday, March 22, San Antonio.  A ransomware attack has hit the Bexar County Appraisal District (BCAD), shutting down its systems. Here's what you need to know.

BCAD confirmed the cyber attack through a notice on its website on Monday, March 21, saying that the infection was detected soon after. Ransomware is harmful software that holds information captive in exchange for a ransom.

The notice did not list which systems were affected. KSAT reports BCAD's email system was disabled.

"Initial forensics reveal the systems were partially affected and damaged files are currently being restored," the notice says.
