Clinton Bailey will serve as the new city manager for the City of Fredericksburg.

The former assistant city manager was unanimously appointed to the role by the Fredericksburg City Council meeting Monday night. He will assume the role effective May 1.

“I started 27 years ago working toward this goal,” said Bailey, who joined the City of Fredericksburg as director of Public Works and Utilities in 2013 and promoted to assistant city manager in 2016. “I’ve worked under some remarkable city managers in the past and I’ve seen the major impact they’ve had on organizations and communities.”

During his time as assistant city manager, Bailey said he’s felt like he has been able to increase his impact here.

“I couldn’t be more excited, and I feel privileged to serve this community in a higher capacity,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I think we’re doing a lot of things right and I think we could do some things better.”

He plans to work more closely with staff and the community to better address the community’s needs.

Kent Myers, the current city manager who is retiring Sept. 30, will transition to the director of Special Projects position until that date. He will continue working on completing his agreed-upon projects during this role, where he will still receive the same salary and benefits and continue being a full-time employee.

In this new role, Myers can still attend city council meetings, as well as the following scheduled meetings:
