During a deafening storm with rain rattling off the metal roof, the New Fairview City Council Monday extended a contract offer to John Cabrales to serve as the city administrator.

The former Lake Dallas city manager expects to sign the contract and begin his tenure this week.

“We’re close to terms. Barring any major changes with the contract, I expect it to go through,” Cabrales said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of New Fairview.

“The mayor is wanting me to start right away. I’d like to start before this weekend.”

Cabrales would like the opportunity to greet the community during Saturday’s Easter event at city hall, which will include an Easter egg hunt.

Mayor John Taylor said all that is left is for Cabrales to sign the contract and pick a start date.

“I expect that this week,” Taylor said.

In other business, the council approved the final plat for phase 3 of Fairview Meadows in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. The third phase of the development off Pioneer Road will include 124 homes. Homes are expected to start closing in July.

The entire development is approximately 700 homes.

The council also agreed to amend the development agreement with Beaten Path Development LLC for Settlers Glen, changing the effective date from May 1 to Aug. 31. The development on Farm Road 407 just north of the Fairview Airport will include 176 homes on 137 acres.

John Pitstick of Beaten Path said homes in the development will range in price between $500,000 and $700,000 and will be 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.

The city annexed the area for the development in January and the development agreement.

Pitstick said they have worked with the board of the Fairview Airport to reconfigure lots in the flight pattern, which were reflected in the conceptual plan presented to the council.

Taylor said the owners of the airport sent a letter to the city in support of the Settlers Glen plans.

“They were happy and pleased,” Taylor said.
