Also, we’ve updated the “Fast Facts” (attached) using 2021 information provided by the Comptroller and public filings. We estimate that upwards of $1bb in local sales tax revenue could be reduced as a result to total destination-based sourcing. The Texas state sales tax base (reported taxable sales plus taxable purchases) remain significantly greater than that of taxing cities, over $93bb in state tax base vs that of taxing cities. Most likely this difference between state tax base and local tax base is the taxable sales and purchases reported by Texans/businesses located outside taxing cities.
The Fast Fact report with annotations can be found at:http://www.cityservices.us/2023-legislative.html
I plan on offering these Fast Facts as a resource to the House Ways & Means Committee on the 21st and encourage you to stop by and share your thoughts with the committee and/or me as well.
Please call/e-mail me with any questions/thoughts/recommendations.
Thank you!
