EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser has vetoed manager Tommy Gonzalez's contract for a second time.

Leeser filed the veto Thursday after the city council approved a revised contract for Gonzalez on Monday.

The City council approved an extension of Gonzalez's contract until 2029.

Leeser stated his reason to veto the contract was that Gonzalez has a current contract that was renewed in 2019 and is not set to expire until 2024. Leeser said it was premature to renew or extend his contract.

Leeser stated in a letter to the city council that while the extension that was voted by city council on Monday included the current terms of the city manager's employment, the fact remained that there is a current contract in place that did not require negotiation.

Leeser lastly stated he received feedback from constituents against the extension.
