Colorado county hires Bernal: Brownsville city manager set to start new job Aug. 8
https_news.yahoo.comJun. 3—The Board of County Commissioners for Adams County, Colorado approved an employment agreement Friday with Brownsville City Manager Noel Bernal as the government's new county manager.
Bernal, who came to work for the city of Brownsville in late 2018, is scheduled to start the new job Aug. 8. He was named one of two finalists for the Adams County job on May 20. In January, Bernal was named 2022 Administrator of the Year by the Texas City Management Association.
Brownsville Mayor Trey Mendez wished Bernal good luck and said it's natural that he would eventually move on in order to further his career development. Mendez praised Bernal's high level of professionalism and ability to assemble a good team and "execute the vision of the city commission over the last several years."
Adams County Commissioner Eva Henry, during the Friday special public hearing livestreamed on YouTube, described Bernal as an "incredible, amazing individual."
"I'm excited for the new chapter in Adams County," she said.
Mendez said the city would soon launch a national search for Bernal's successor. Deputy City Manager Helen Ramirez would be the logical choice for interim city manager during the course of the search, though it will ultimately be up to the city commission to make that decision during its June 7 meeting, he said.
He really brought a different perspective to the city over the last three years plus, certainly a higher level of professionalism, brought on a good team, really helped execute the vision of the city commission over the last several years.
