New chief to join Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service

SWEETWATER, Texas — The city of Sweetwater has announced the new Chief of Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service.

Dewey Coy will begin his duties as Chief on August 1st, 2022. Coy is originally from Snyder, and began his career in 1989 with the Zephyr Volunteer Fire Department. In 1998, he joined the Jacksonville Fire Department in Jacksonville, Arkansas where he earned the rank of Battalion Chief, then retired after 22 years of service in 2020.

“We are excited that Chief Coy is coming to Sweetwater to become our next fire chief,” David A. Vela, City Manager said. “He has the experience, dedication and know-how to come in and do great things for our department and our community. We welcome Chief Coy and stand ready to assist him in making his transition to Sweetwater go as smoothly as possible. Congratulations to him and his family.”

“The men and women of the Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service that I have met are top-notch personnel,” Chief Coy said. “I may have been selected as the new Fire Chief, but these individuals truly are the ones who keep the machine moving forward. I am honored to serve alongside each of them as we fulfill our mission as a fire and EMS department.”
