Lakeway City Council approved a resolution to appoint an interim city manager after the current city manager, Julie Oakley, departs on Sept. 2.

According to the resolution, Assistant City Manager Joseph Molis will take over as interim city manager and will “fulfill all duties and responsibilities of city manager thereafter until such time as a successor city manager shall be appointed or until another interim city manager is appointed.”

The resolution was adopted as part of the consent agenda during the Aug.15 council meeting.

According to Lakeway Communications Director Jarrod Wise, Molis will have all the responsibilities of city manager until the role is filled permanently; whether council selects him in the future or another candidate.

While there is not a specific timeline for when a new city manager might be appointed, Wise said, a search committee of council members is currently going through resumes and potential candidates.

The community will probably see more discussion about their selection process next month, he said.

As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, Oakley submitted her resignation on July 6 to pursue a job at a top national accounting firm.

“I am proud of dedicating 12 years of my life to the city of Lakeway,” Oakley said in a press release. “I am truly proud of this Lakeway team. And while I am very excited for this next step in my professional journey, I also know it will be difficult to move on from this amazing team, having worked with many city staff members for more than a decade.”

In the press release, Oakley also said she wanted to be clear that her decision to leave had nothing to do with the “frivolous, politically motivated lawsuit recently filed.”

The lawsuit, filed in a district court by resident Christopher Levy, claimed Oakley lived outside the city and that officials had deceived residents to cover up the violation of the Lakeway City Charter.

Molis will resume all duties of city manager, effective Sept. 3.
