The city of Plano is continuing its efforts toward combatting homelessness.

The Plano City Council adopted a contract with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for $138,815 to provide services and housing to combat homelessness.

Of the contracted funds, $134,000 will be allocated toward case management, rent and utility payment, essential services and security. The city is partnering with Salvation Army to help with rapid rehousing and ensure those in need are finding a home.

Since the city’s rehousing program began, 73 homeless individuals have received help over a 12-month span.

Of the 73 cases, 18 of them were youths – categorized as homeless individuals aged from 18-24. A total of $44,473 was allocated to helping those categorized as youths.
