GLENN HEIGHTS – As more out-of-towners move to the area, Glenn Heights officials say they are prepared for the growth.
The city council recently approved a long-term strategic plan for the city that Glenn Heights City Manager David Hall said includes “not only a welcoming community, but plenty of small-town charm with the urban amenities to go with it.”
The city’s overall goals include:
• The improvement of infrastructure, realized through assuring that physical infrastructure is planned, funded, and maintained with an eye toward both current and future community needs. The plan looks at supporting commercial, recreational, and environmental requirements and standards while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
• The promotion of a local government and city organization that is committed to meeting the needs of the community. This comprises not only encouraging collaboration and civic participation, but also promoting accountability and transparency.
• Finding ways to sustain ongoing economic development with a diversified economic base and a range of employment opportunities. This goal will be accomplished by the ongoing support of existing businesses as well as a look toward expanding opportunities for new businesses using targeted infrastructure investments locally and regionally.
• Strengthening the character of the city’s downtown area establishing it as the “Heart of the City” that retains a small-town feel. As a center of civic activities, the downtown area growth will be facilitated with a mix of residential and commercial projects including a multi-modal transportation network connecting downtown to adjacent neighborhoods.
“The city of Glenn Heights is poised for growth,” Hall said. “We are in an excellent location sitting in both Dallas and Ellis counties with an appealing tax rate, a small-town atmosphere and positive room for growth for both residential and commercial businesses looking for a new home.”
