Staff reports The Melissa City Council approved the construction of a new public safety complex during its Sept. 13 meeting. The building will be located in what is now a large empty lot on State Highway 5 just south of Melissa Road.
The city recently purchased the property from Steel Fab.
When finished, the building will house the city’s police, fire and municipal court departments. It will serve as the central fire station, fire department administrative offices, the central police station, police department administrative office, the municipal court and administrative offices for court staff.
Construction is expected to begin later this fall. If all goes as planned, departments will begin moving into the new facility by early 2024.
