The McKinney Fire Department is requiring hot work permits amid burn bans in Collin County.

Hot work permits will be required for those performing hot work or cutting and welding outdoors, according to a McKinney news release. The hot work permit can be found here.

The burn ban covers the city of McKinney, the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction and the fire district property.

The burn ban conditions include no open burning and no wood-burning fire pits or campfires. Residential grills and smokers are still allowed while the burn ban is in effect.

“The free permits reinforce the importance of heightened awareness for safety during these hot and dry conditions,” McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith said in the release.
