Baytown city manager leaving post at end of year

The City of Baytown has announced that Rick Davis, who has served as city manager since May 2015, will depart at the end of the year.

“The time is coming for me to turn a page and pay attention to some other life needs and opportunities,” Davis said. “It becomes apparent to all of us at some point that the citizens can and should benefit from a newness of perspective and approach. Change is always difficult, but it is at the same time essential if we are to continue evolving into the kind of Baytown you and I know we can become.”

This decision for Davis to leave was mutual between him and city council.

“I am grateful for their guidance, trust, support, and especially for their willingness to make tough decisions regardless of popular opinion,” Davis said. “We share a collegiality and friendship that will endure this separation.”

Davis was gracious with the announcement of his departure.

“It is and will always be a great honor to have worked side by side with the best people I have found in my career.”

Details of transition plans in the wake of Davis’ departure are currently being discussed, city officials said.
