Driver charged in Port Arthur motorcycle crash that killed city employee

A driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in a fatal motorcycle crash on Friday in Port Arthur.

Christopher James, 40, of Port Arthur was arrested in connection with the fatal crash that killed 47-year-old Port Arthur resident and city employee James Addison, police said.

Christopher James, 40, of Port Arthur was arrested in connection with the fatal crash that killed 47-year-old Port Arthur resident and city employee James Addison, police said.

"The city of Port Arthur is saddened by the loss of one of our employees. James Addison, who worked for the Public Works, Solid Waste-Trash Division since 2018 as an Equipment Operator I, was raised and educated in Port Arthur and graduated from Stephen F. Austin in the Port Acres area," city information stated. "He was an employee with a kind spirit. Please join us in offering our deepest condolences to the family of James Addison."

Port Arthur police received a call for the major crash shortly after 11:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Gulfway Drive.

Police said James "displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested that night. A bond has been set for $30,000."

The crash remains under investigation by the Port Arthur Police Department.
