Coppell City Council denies Oncor Electric Delivery Company’s rate change request

Coppell City Council approved a resolution Oct. 25 that will deny Oncor Electric Delivery Company’s proposed rate change.

Oncor filed an application with cities retaining original jurisdiction in May seeking to increase system-wide transmission and distribution rates by about $251 million, or approximately 4.5%, over present revenues, according to the agenda item. The company requested approval of an 11.2% increase in residential rates and a 1.6% increase in street lighting rates. The impact of the requested increase on an average residential customer using 1,300 kWh/month would be about $6.02 per month, according to the agenda item.

Oncor’s rate request was suspended from taking effect for 90 days in a prior city action. During the 90-day period, city staff received recommendations from experts and determined the company’s proposed rate request is unreasonable, according to the agenda item.

Oncor will have 30 days to appeal the decision to the Public Utility Commission of Texas once the resolution is adopted.
