A man on Tuesday fatally shot his wife and himself inside the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office building.

Officers found the couple dead while responding to a report of shots fired and a possible active shooter, the Associated Press reported. Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Investigator William Fritz told the AP that after they evacuated the building, authorities determined that the man had walked into the complex and shot his wife, who was employed there.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said two medical examiner’s office employees were struck by gunfire before the self-inflicted shooting, the Dallas Morning News reported. The condition of one of the employees was not clear.

“We do believe there is an employee here that is involved in this — we do believe that one of the subjects that is deceased was indeed an employee,” Sheriff Marian Brown told the Morning News.

The identities of those involved in the murder-suicide have not been released, but Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price told WFAA-TV that the woman who was killed was a deputy medical examiner.

KTVT-TV reported the shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m on the second floor of the building on North Stemmons Freeway near Wycliff Avenue.

Authorities also evacuated the adjacent Dallas County Health and Human Services building.
