Pflugerville officials approve $146M construction contract for water treatment plant expansion

Council awarded the $146.3 million construction contract to PLW Waterworks LLC at a Nov. 8 meeting.
The project will expand the water treatment plant's capacity from 17 million gallons per day to 30 million gallons per day, which the city projects will be enough to keep up with demand through 2029.
Construction bidding for the project began in June, and PLW was the only contractor to submit a proposal. Utility Manager Kevin Jaeger said PLW's original offer was $152.1 million, but the city managed to eliminate approximately $5.8 million in costs through negotiation.
Funding for the project comes from utility bonds.
Construction on the water treatment plant expansion is expected to take around 41 months and be complete in April 2025, according to city documents.
The water treatment plant expansion is one of a few major water and wastewater improvements in the works in Pflugerville that will help the city keep up with residential and commercial growth.
