Leander to vote on $3.5M agreement with Williamson County regarding Northline reclaimed water

Leander City Council will consider taking action on a subrecipient agreement with Williamson County for funding to reimburse expenses related to the Northline reclaimed water system at its Nov. 17 meeting.

The funding is through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA, which provides state and local governments support to respond to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to city documents. Under ARPA, the county received money from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds program, or SLFRF, in response to the continuous impact of COVID-19.

Williamson County will provide $3.5 million from its SLFRF funding to reimburse the city of Leander for expenses related to the Reclaimed Water System to Northline project—which will deliver a phased reclaimed water system at the RM 2243 Wastewater Treatment Plant—according to the city.

Improvements in Phase 1 of the project are intended to supply water for the construction industry and help with Leander’s conservation efforts, according to city documents. Phase 2 incorporates a reclaimed water line from the wastewater treatment plant to the Northline development, which will be used for purposes such as irrigation.
