EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — The El Paso City Council is set to discuss whether it will re-enact an emergency ordinance regarding the ongoing migrant crisis and the expected expiration of Title 42.

CBS4's Ariana Parra explains the possible extension of the City's emergency ordinance regarding mass migration in El Paso.

Title 42 allows the government to remove individuals from the country due to public health emergency.

While Title 42 remains in effect, it is expected to expire on Dec 21.

A surge of migrants can then be expected in the Borderland.

Over 22,000 migrants were released into the community in November, according to a presentation from the City.

The re-enactment of the city's ordinance would allow the it to be ready for another surge.

The extension of the city's emergency ordinance would continue authorizing the city manager to gather resources to help address the current humanitarian crisis that has resulted from mass migration through the city.

Re-enacting the emergency ordinance would allow the office of emergency management and the city to continue preparing and evaluating the need for mass emergency sheltering in anticipation of the removal of Title 42.

El Paso City Council will have it's work session on Monday at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to meet on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
