Richardson officials got a look at a new logo and website in preparation for the city’s 150-year anniversary during a presentation at a Dec. 5 City Council meeting.

According to city officials, Richardson was chartered as a city on June 26, 1873.

For the sesquicentennial celebration, the city has created a unique anniversary logo that incorporates wildflowers. Communication Director Greg Sowell said the city plans to use the logo on a variety of products, including hats, shirts, balloons and stickers.

In addition, the city has set up a website for the anniversary at https://richardson150th.com. Beginning Jan. 3, the website is scheduled to add more history on the city of Richardson as well as pages where residents can learn about anniversary events and ways to get involved.

Mayor Paul Voelker said he is glad to see the event provide a “digitized” history for the city’s past.

“Having [Richardson’s] rich history become this wonderful digital archive will be transformative beyond this celebration,” Voelker said.

Sowell said city officials plan to use the website and its social media channels to share community stories about Richardson’s history, starting in January and continuing until the June anniversary.

Other plans under development for the city’s anniversary include an events calendar and an online store.

A big celebration is scheduled to be held by the city on June 24, 2023—getting close to the anniversary, while also placing the event on a weekend. Sowell said planning is still underway for the large event, adding that there will be additional celebrations held over the preceding six months.

Richardson previously celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1998.
