EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Jonathan Killings was appointed as the City of El Paso's fire chief, the city announced Friday.
Killings, who has been serving as interim fire chief since May, graduated from the El Paso Fire Academy in 1998 and has served in all ranks within the fire department, according to the city.
“Killings is a gifted director within our successful talent pipeline that has embraced our organization’s leadership development opportunities which inspire collaboration and alignment and integration with our service delivery,” said Deputy City Manager and former Fire Chief Mario D’Agostino. “He is well equipped to lead the department into the future and to maintain an environment of camaraderie within the brothers and sisters of the Fire Department.”
Killings was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2016.
During his career he served as a member of the El Paso Fire Department’s ComSAR Mountain Rescue Team, the Urban Search and Rescue Team, as well as HazMAT and fire training captain.
He has also worked in Emergency Operations, Professional Development, the Office of Emergency Management, and 911 Communications.
“Chief Killings is an exceptional example of the internal and dynamic talent we have within the City of El Paso,” City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said. “He demonstrates effective decision-making and strong leadership that has earned him the respect of all El Paso Fire Department employees, both uniformed and civilian.”
Chief Killings has a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Public Administration from Sam Houston State University, and has been a Licensed EMT Paramedic since 2009.
