El Paso, TEXAS (CBS4) — The City of El Paso is looking to improve transportation safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Partial funding for the project would come from the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Program.
TASA provides funding for projects and activities defined as transportation alternatives including:
- on and off road pedestrian and bicycle paths and lanes
- infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility
- community improvement activities
- safe routes to school
This could cover improvements to community activities such as biking, providing safe routes to schools, making lanes or paths available to pedestrians and those on bikes, as well as public transportation.
Other upgrades coming with this capital improvement project includes landscaping, curb ramps and solar powered lighting.
Phase I of the project would be on McRae Blvd from Montwood to Album.

Phase II of the project would be on McRae Blvd and would continue from Album to Montana.
It would cost $1.9 million but should only cost the city $650,000 from the 2025 FY budget, due to expected federal funding.
