ABILENE, Texas — Anson police chief Coy Sanchez is out... resigning in the last few weeks.

Anson city manager Ervin Campbell said Sanchez resigned for health reasons.

While Anson has no chief, Campbell said there is a plan in place with four certified officers on duty.

"During the day, we’ve had one officer and chief on duty," he said. "So now it’s just one officer. But we also have our animal patrol person. He’s went through the academy and he’s now currently able to police rather than just animal patrol."

We spoke with dozens of people who had strong opinions but did not want to go on camera.

But Anson resident Elijah Flores said the focus should stay on safety.

"Being a police officer takes a lot of skill," he said. "I seen some police officers do their job here and there. But I can tell in my opinion, he was a really good police officer."

We spoke with Jones County Sheriff's Department about helping the Anson Police Department, and they said it’s business as usual as far as things go.
