Sept. 22 a petition was presented to the Rhome Mayor, secretary and council.
One hundred seventy six concerned, upset, frustrated taxpayers signed the petition asking for our mayor pro tem to step down. That is a large percentage of the voters (268) in our last city election.
The petition stated due to the misuse of authority, neglect of fiduciary duties, Texas Open Meetings violations, incompetency and gross mismanagement of $1.2 million by his own public admission Aug. 25, that he should step down.
Citizens are outraged at the audacity of this person’s actions. In my opinion and in many others, these actions were done to push his own political agenda. A lot of energy and effort was put forth in the making of this petition.
We citizens demand to know the status of this petition. What will be done with it and when will we be informed of the outcome?
We just need a response from our city government as to how this situation can be rectified. Citizens are alert, active, taking notice and watching how our city is functioning. We will not sit in the dark in silence any more.
If we see a situation that we think is not on the up and up and is not legal, we will take action accordingly. We will not stay muted while our town ignores governmental and state laws and just do what they wish.
Approximately 66 percent of those who voted in the last city election spoke boldly and loudly. Citizens’ wishes were that the mayor pro tem step down.
Let’s see if he is listening and will do the right thing. In my humble opinion, time will tell and changes are needed in my hometown.
