City Council Receives Positive Update on Municipal Court Operations
City of Corpus Christi
OCTOBER 11, 2022
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council received a positive update on the Municipal Court caseload and process changes.
Presiding Judge Jackie Chapa, and Court Director, Gilbert Hernandez, have implemented changes in how citations are processed.
If someone receives a citation for an ordinance violation, they receive a summons to appear in court within 30 days from the date the citation is filed with the court. Hearings and trials that are requested are scheduled within 30 days.
Court cases and dockets are constantly being reviewed and scheduled. This allows for changes when the flow of citations or cases requires it. All these changes force cases to be heard and resolved in a shorter period.
The number of filed cases versus cases closed in the fiscal year 2022 increased to 119%.
During the Warrant Resolution Month in September, the Municipal Court collected $925,671, cleared 3,992 warrants, and 7,001 customers visited the court. The Municipal Court ended the fiscal year with $10,284,808 in gross revenues.
