AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has five cities in the top 20 most family-friendly with Austin ranking 9th in the state and nationally, according to an analysis by StorageCafe.
The storage unit company analyzed the U.S.'s 100 largest cities on 29 metrics ranging from crime rates and school systems to housing costs and the number of restaurants per capita.
Austin is the second Texan location, behind the number one spot held by Plano, Texas. Its ranking is mainly propelled by its high-quality public education systems and excellent amenities including a pool-friendly environment with 3.3 pools per 100,000 residents.
Austin ranks in second for its public schools, with fine institutions such as the Liberal Arts and Science Academy earning a 99% average graduation rate and the title of “best high school” in Texas. More than half of the locals over 25 years old hold a B.A. or a higher degree.
Despite the cost of homes being above average, hovering at about $642K, family incomes are some of the most generous ($121K/year), thanks, in part, to Austin’s status as the tech and innovation hub.
Also, the monthly cost for an average family with two children is moderate at $1,190.
The three other Texas cities that made the list are Lubbock (10th), El Paso (12th), and Laredo (15th).
