AUSTIN, Texas — Over one week after Winter Storm Mara left over 200,000 customers without power, Austin Energy has announced that they have restored power to 99.9% of customers in the Austin area.
They say "a small number" of customers remain without power due to damage that requires an electrician to repair.
"Thank you for your patience and support as our crews worked around the clock to complete repairs and bring power back to nearly all Austin Energy customers," a statement from Austin Energy says.
According to KUT, around 265,000 Austin Energy customers lost power during the storm.
Austin Energy outlines several tips for customers who are still without power.
- Find a licensed electrician to make the repairs
- Once you have an electrician, they will work with Austin Energy to disconnect damaged services before any repair work begins
- A permit to start work on emergency repairs is not needed. If equipment needs to be rebuilt or repaired, a permit is only necessary after the damaged service is fixed
- Once repairs are made, your electrician should contact 512-974-2030 for electrical inspections
- With the inspection complete, we clear the service request so it can be assigned to a field crew. Crews will restore power as quickly as possible
- Customers still without power after seeing that the service drop is connected, and the meter is installed should check their breakers and reset as necessary
Customers with questions about reconnection or who want to check on their reconnection status can call 512-322-9100 or visit Austin Energy's website.
