A Somerset police officer was working off-duty at Twin Peaks bar as security detail Saturday night when a man stole his TASER and fired it.

The 34-year-old suspect was being escorted off the premises with a group for being intoxicated and belligerent just before midnight, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

While they were being escorted, the 29-year-old officer had his TASER unholstered and pointed toward the ground. Allegedly, the suspect then took the TASER and began to run away.

After a short pursuit on foot, the suspect pointed the TASER and fired it at the officer, striking him. The officer then took out his gun and fired one round at the suspect, striking him in the torso.

The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The investigation is still ongoing.
