The city of Leander ushered in Randall Malik as the city’s new economic development director at the Feb. 16 City Council meeting.

“We’re greatly honored to have him here,” City Manager Rick Beverlin said at the meeting.

Malik was recommended out of a pool of 21 qualified candidates by Beverlin and officially approved by council at the meeting.

Recently serving as assistant director of economic development for the city of Cedar Park, Malik has 13 consecutive years of experience in economic development. His prior experience also includes serving as executive director for the city of Rosenberg, executive director for Rosenberg Development Corp. and executive director for the Cuero Development Corp., according to city documents.

As a certified economic developer, Malik holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in public administration from Texas State University, according to the city. He has substantial knowledge and capital investment experience in hotel, retail, business and industrial sectors.

“I’ve seen in my commute to work on a daily basis the amount of residential growth occurring [in Leander],” Malik said at the meeting. “I think we’re poised to take advantage of that and see some more commercial developments come our way.”

Malik’s predecessor is Cameron Goodman, who now serves as the director of economic development for the city of Georgetown. Click this link to learn more about Leander’s economic development department.
