On Feb. 22, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced Tesla’s engineering headquarters would be relocated to California.

In late 2021, Musk relocated Tesla’s headquarters to the 10 million-square-foot Giga Texas facility located in southeastern Travis County.

During the Feb. 22 press conference, Musk did not present a timeline for the move, share any information behind the move or provide any information on how this would affect the Travis County facility.

Travis County representatives said they had no further information to share on the topic as of Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In January, Tesla filed permits for $800 million worth of expansions to the Travis County facility.

Through its agreement with Travis County, Tesla received a tax incentives deal that will save Tesla $13.9 million over its first 10 years in the area. Tesla, in turn, said the plant would bring at least 5,000 jobs. Musk later said he expected to employ 10,000 people and that investment in the factory would total over $10 billion.
