Houston ISD receives $300,000 for new recycling program

“Introducing this new initiative in HISD schools has become more important than ever as we look to engage our students around innovative solutions to achieving sustainability,” HISD Superintendent Millard House II said. “We are confident that the involvement of our students in this program will continue to build ingenuity that supports Houston’s local economy and job creation for our future leaders.”
In addition to recycling training, education and awareness for all HISD staff and students, this initiative will also entail the collection of cardboard, paper and a variety of plastics. The plastics collection is coordinated by post-use recycling company Cyclyx’s all-plastic 10 to 90 program—which is named for the company's goal of raising the amount of recycled plastics from 10% to 90%.
This is part of the city of Houston's overarching plan on recycling.
This new recycling program will begin with 20 HISD campuses on April 20, with plans to expand, according to the press release. Some of these schools include Briargrove Elementary School, West University Elementary School, Pershing Middle School, Booker T. Washington High School, Lamar High School, Energy Institute High School and Heights High School.
