CLYDE, Texas — “I know that a lot of people are concerned about Clyde not having that small town feel anymore but a lot of the new growth is going off of I-20 so it’s not going into the heart of downtown Clyde,” said a Clyde resident.
With growth in housing, entertainment, and road improvements in Clyde, some people are not too happy about the city’s growth, but for one local business owner, Melissa Stalling, the improvement of the city's infrastructure is golden.
“I think it's great that Clyde has a lot of potential for growth, especially for business like myself- small, mom and pop business, because Clyde the population right now can't sustain a business to stay in business very long,” said Stalling.
The City Administrator of Clyde, Christopher McGuire gave insight on the plans that they have for the infrastructures and the new sports center.
“There's going to be a 200 unit apartment complex being developed on that side as well. and we have several other subdivisions ranging from 40 homes up to 200 homes that are currently with the structure in place right now,” said Christopher McGuire, the City of Clyde Administrator.
“I think the other catalyst for the growth is the 15 million dollar investment that we made in the sports complex. since that's been announced, and it's under construction, we’re seeing a tremendous amount of interest in coming into Clyde,” said McGuire
Housing is not the only development that Clyde is working on. The city is also working on upgrading their roads even though they are having some opposition.
“We've identified 36.3 miles of roads that need to be repaved. paving is about a million dollars a mile so it's a huge challenge of how we are going to do that,” said McGuire.
