City of Nederland temporarily shutting off water to Aqua Texas customers effective immediately
'I approved this decision as an effort to stop the hemorrhaging of the Nederland Water System," Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said.NEDERLAND, Texas — Effective immediately, the City of Nederland is temporarily shutting off the flow of water to Aqua Texas water customers.
Nederland provides treated water to the Aqua Texas service area by contract. This service area is outside city limits, in the Beauxart Garden area.
City crews have been actively pursuing waterline problems and noticed a substantial increase at the Aqua meter that indicated widespread leaks, according to the release.
The City of Nederland's water system is being negatively impacted by the arctic cold front. Officials believe shutting off the water for a temporary period will preserve the system.
"After discussing the issue with the Public Works Director and Water Treatment Plant supervisor, I approved this decision as an effort to stop the hemorrhaging of the Nederland Water System," Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said in the release.
City officials have told Aqua Texas about the decision. All Aqua Texas water customers are encouraged to conserve water.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
