Assistant City Manager of Community Services Chris Boone is inviting the public to weigh in on the future of downtown Beaumont.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 12, the downtown development committee will hold its first public meeting at the Event Centre.

All are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts on what they would like to see happening in downtown Beaumont, according to a news release. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the potential and challenges of different development options in the city.

Topics raised and discussed at the public forum will be presented to the steering committee as they consider the options for growth and development.

“We have the unique opportunity to reimagine the heart of Beaumont and want it to be a citywide effort with everyone’s input and buy-in," Boone said in the release. "The more feedback we get, the better."

He added, the goal of the development committee and city workers is for "downtown to be a thriving place where all citizens, visitors and students can eat, work, live and play.”

The public meeting will be led by the city’s contracted consulting firm, SWA.
