MISSION, Texas – Texas Supreme Court Justice Jeff Boyd says the City of Mission has made a stellar choice for city attorney.
Boyd, who is based in Austin, visited the Rio Grande Valley earlier this week to administer the swearing in of Victor A. Flores as Mission city attorney.
Flores, a McAllen native, previously served as city attorney for Brownsville. He also served his country as a U.S. Marine.
After the ceremony was over, the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service asked Boyd why Flores was special.
“Victor is obviously a very dedicated public servant. He’s dedicated his career to working for the benefit of people in local communities, which is kind of where the rubber meets the road when it comes to lawyering, when you’re going to do it for your local community like he does,” Boyd said.
“He’s very dedicated family man, as you can tell with his wife and boys being here tonight. He is a man of faith, as I said earlier, and an excellent lawyer, well respected statewide as an excellent lawyer and leader. So yeah, he’s a very impressive person.”
Asked how he got to know Flores, Boyd said: “So I serve as the Supreme Court’s liaison to the organization that represents all of the young lawyers in Texas. It is called the Texas Young Lawyers Association. And when I was first appointed, among my colleagues, to be the one of us who would serve in that role, as the liaison to the association, Victor was president of the Texas Young Lawyers Association.”
Boyd said that was about three and a half years ago. He said their friendship developed from there. “Victor welcomed me on board and we became good friends and have been ever since.”
Boyd added: “Victor is going to be a great asset to the people of Mission.”
Later, on LinkedIn, Flores said: “I don’t know what it is, but I have an amazing feeling about this opportunity. There’s something special happening in Mission.”
