GLEN ROSE — The Glen Rose City Council will review a petition submitted by former councilman Dennis Moore to reconsider the contract of outgoing city administrator Michael Leamons.
The petition has the signatures of 41 individuals with Glen Rose Mayor Julia Douglas being the first signature on the list.
“We the undersigned (citizens of Glen Rose and Somervell County) ‘once city/one county’ petition the City Council to reconsider its decision to terminate City Administrator Leamons’ contract,” the agenda item said. “We request that his contract be extended.”
The council will discuss, consider and possibly take action on the petition during its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Glen Rose City Hall located at 201 Vernon Street.
The agenda item was originally submitted on Dec. 6, 2022, to be placed on the Dec. 13, 2022, meeting. According to the agenda item, “Mr. Moore was advised that the full council may not be in attendance at that meeting and agreed to have the item placed on the Jan. 13, 2023, agenda.”
Since late July, the council had four executive sessions concerning Leamons’ contract. In late July, Glen Rose City Councilwoman Kelly Harris essentially gave her vote of no confidence to Leamons and his future, even though his contract with the city wasn’t set to expire into September 2023.
In September, the Glen Rose City Council voted unanimously to accept the amended contract proposal by Leamons, allowing him to stay at his position until Feb. 17.
Before the Christmas break, the City of Glen Rose had received 14 applications for the position. Douglas said the city has yet to conduct interviews, but the Glen Rose City Council will discuss the next steps in its next council meeting.
