Flower Mound Town Manager James Childers reported to town council April 3 that per new bills introduced at the Texas Legislature in Austin, developers could construct up to two accessory dwellings alongside a main structure without seeking approval from town officials.
The bills, House Bill 2789 and companion bill Senate Bill 1412, still give neighborhood homeowners associations the ability to regulate accessory dwellings. Developers must still follow town setback rules along with other applications and requirements.
“In essence, what these bills contemplate is taking the town’s ability to regulate accessory dwellings off the table,” Childers said.
This station would be for an eventual replacement of Fire Station #6, which is currently occupying a public works building, said Melissa Demmitt, communications director for the town.
