Darrell Volz was sworn in to serve as the city of Selma’s police chief April 13.

Volz joined the city in November. He was officially appointed as the interim police chief Dec. 8 and has excelled in his role, according to City Manager Johnny Casias.

Since his time with the city, Volz has helped improve communication and department morale as well as implementing programs for the department.

With these accomplishments, City Council voted to appoint Volz as the police chief.

“Since joining the city of Selma in November of last year, Chief Volz has continued to make positive impacts day in and day out for the Selma Police Department,” Casias said.

Casias said Volz will help the city with succession planning, so someone within the city will be able to succeed Volz when he decides to leave the city. This planning will help provide upward mobility for the police department.
