SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio is attracting the next generation of manufacturing with a new industrial mega-development on land inside Loop 410.
The supersite could lead to thousands of good-paying jobs.
"The amount of jobs that will be developed from this type of project is huge for San Antonio," said Michael Hargrave, Koontz Corporation, Vice President of Development.
The vision in this cornfield is big for the locally-based, Koontz Corporation. The Vice President of Development, Michael Hargrave says, the 11 parcels of land in South San Antonio off I-35 will become an 188-acre industrial mixed development.
"We wanted to make sure that this site can accommodate distributors, manufacturers, and suppliers," said Hargrave.
The master plan shows what it will look like; a 2.8 million square feet manufacturing and warehouse space that one city leader is touting.
"We begin to think of San Antonio as a real generator, an economic driver in the Texas triangle," said Dr. Adrian Rocha Garcia, San Antonio District 4 Council Member.
Greater SATX says traditionally, Houston and Dallas have been the top manufacturing economic engines in the Lone Star State, but more and more companies are eyeing the Alamo City region to do business. It says, there are currently 50 companies "kicking the dirt" or looking at San Antonio to move their headquarters," said Sara Carabias Rush, Greater SATX Chief Economic Development Officer.
"We want to see at least a $50,000 a-year wages coming into these types of opportunities and then from there it scales," said Carabias Rush.
Advanced manufacturing careers that, Carabias Rush says, can pay up to $200,000 dollars a year.
"We're talking today more of these really advanced, highly-specialized, technically-skilled jobs," explained Carabias Rush.
Manufacturing jobs nowadays require workers to operate high-speed equipment through the touchscreen, reset robotic arm positions, or develop artificial intelligence software for equipment.
According to www.Salary.com, the salary range for an advanced manufacturing engineer is between $74,116 and $93,231.
"We have the opportunity to have two-thousand lives changed," expressed Dr. Garcia Rocha.
