Ever since last summer, the city of Dallas has been teasing the return of E-Scooters. The dockless vehicle program was originally shut down in 2020, but was set be brought back after a number of changes last summer.

On May 5, Assistant City Manager Robert M. Perez sent out a memo claiming dockless vehicles would return to the streets of Dallas June 1. Originally, these E-Scooters were removed do to safety and quality-of-life concerns. The new rules include keeping a limited number of scooters on the streets and stricter curfew and neighborhood restrictions.

According to Dallas Observer, finalizing a contract with a data vendor has been causing the delay.

“The data vendor is a critical component in ensuring city staff is able to hold dockless vehicle operators accountable to the program guidelines. After many challenges, the data vendor contract is nearing execution,” said Perez.

Now, DFW will just have to wait and see if the E-Scooters actually return next month.
