Plainview’s regular City Council meeting started with a celebratory air Tuesday night.
The council skipped to the end of the agenda first to announce the promotion of Neil Weems.
Weems was hired as assistant public works director in September 2021. As of Tuesday night, Weems is officially the Public Works Director for the City of Plainview.
Before coming to Plainview, Weems worked with the City of Lubbock for 18 years. He managed environmental compliance for water and wastewater services.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science from Lubbock Christian University. Weems has a Class A Wastewater Treatment Operator License. He is also a certified instructor with the Texas Water Utilities Association and is a member of the Texas Tech Institutional Biosafety Committee.
Weems has the experience, noted City Manager Jeffrey Snyder as he presented the item to the council.
Weems is married to Camie and they have three kids – two daughters and a son – and a son-in-law. They also have one grandson.
Weems was joined by his family Tuesday night.
“We look forward to great things,” said Mayor Charles Starnes.
Weems takes over the position from Tim Crosswhite who had the position since 2016.
Crosswhite is now the Capital Improvement Program Manager.
