18-year-old swapped spots with younger passenger after hitting K-9 deputy vehicle, sheriff says

The sheriff's office says an 18-year-old swapped places with his younger passenger to avoid charges after crashing into a K-9 deputy vehicle last month.
When the 16-year-old passenger realized how he was manipulated, he told officers Camillus Augustine Galvan, 18, was the vehicle's driver, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.
Galvan was charged this week with aggravated assault on a public servant, evading arrest and failure to stop and render aid. He is being held on a $75,000 bail for the aggravated assault and $30,000 each for the remaining charges.
Deputies were in pursuit in South Bexar County, near Trader's Village, on May 26 when the suspect vehicle left the roadway and struck a K-9 deputy's car while he attempted to deploy spikes.
Salazar said in a briefing that "the deputy sustained a pretty bad concussion and was knocked out cold." The deputy also sustained numerous other injuries, including two spikes embedded in his leg.
At the time, police reported that a 16-year-old was arrested while an 18-year-old fled the scene.
The younger teen was the suspected driver of the vehicle. However, the teen now says Galvan convinced him to swap clothes, so the younger boy could take the blame for lesser charges.
Galvan later admitted to being the vehicle's driver and causing the deputy's injuries, the sheriff said.
There is no update on the charges for the 16-year-old, but Salazar said officials are "moving in to drop those charges on the 16-year-old in association with having the right information."
The injured deputy is making a full recovery at home.
