A Stephenville water park is temporarily closed after a child drowned Saturday, officials say.

Officers responded about 7:45 p.m. Saturday to Splashville Water Park in the 800 block of South Graham Avenue in response to a 911 call regarding a possible drowning victim, according to police. When they arrived, they discovered citizens and lifeguards performing CPR on a 4-year-old who was found unresponsive in the pool.

The child was taken to the emergency room at Texas Health Stephenville and pronounced dead later that night, police said.

Stephenville police, Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, and Texas Rangers are investigating the child’s drowning.

“At this time all indicators are that this is a tragic accident,” a news release from the police department said.

Stephenville Parks and Recreation posted on social media that Splashville was closed Sunday. It was unclear when it would reopen.

Stephenville is located in Erath County, roughly 100 miles from downtown Dallas.
