31-year veteran with Dallas police dies after returning home from his shift

A Dallas Police officer died after he collapsed Thursday when he was returning home from his shift. He was with the department for 31 years.

A veteran Dallas police officer died after collapsing when returning home from his shift, authorities said.
At around 4 p.m. Thursday, Dallas police responded to an ambulance call to assist an officer, according to a news release from the police department.
Law enforcement had received a 911 call about an off-duty police officer who collapsed near a parking lot after returning home from a shift.
An employee at an apartment complex and officers performed CPR before Dallas Fire Rescue arrived, according to the preliminary investigation.
He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died. The officer was assigned to Southwest Patrol and had been with the Dallas Police Department for 31 years.
Police did not release his identity.
