BLANCO, Texas — The City of Blanco experienced a “very serious water emergency” on Friday that caused officials to trigger Stage 6 water restrictions.

According to Mayor Mike Arnold, the Texas Water Company usually delivers the city’s water supply from Canyon Lake but has been struggling to keep up with demand. On Friday, a small pipe break was enough for “their delivery of water to the City of Blanco to stop altogether.”

The water supply began to rapidly decline, so City officials immediately triggered the water restrictions and shut down all industrial and recreational users in town.

On Sunday, officials met again to discuss what should be done. The city water tanks were reportedly full, due in part to the conservation efforts and a flow coming from the supplier.

They decided to remain in Stage 6 for the time being, with the plan to reevaluate the situation at 8 p.m.

Officials said plans are in place in case the situation gets worse, but they hope to lessen restrictions as time goes on.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
