The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of former WCSO deputy David Bosecker, who was killed in the line of duty in Eastland County on Friday night.

Bosecker was 57.

“He was a good officer. He seemed to always have a smile on his face. We are deeply saddened by his tragic death,” said Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin.

According to a story in Eastland County Today, Bosecker and other Eastland County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic fight in progress between Cisco and Rising Star around 9 p.m. on July 21. Bosecker arrived first and immediately began receiving gunfire from the suspect. He was struck and fatally wounded.

The suspect, 42-year-old Cody Pritchard, was apprehended and booked into the Stephens County Jail for the capital murder of a peace officer. Pritchard is being held without bond, according to jail records.

After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Bosecker and his wife, Brenda, moved to Wise County in 1999. He was with the WCSO from 2000 to 2005, Akin said. He left the sheriff’s office to work at the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and as a game warden in Brown County. His law enforcement career continued at the Comanche Police Department. He was employed by the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office since 2021.

Bosecker’s funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Brownwood Coliseum.
