The Battleship Texas is back in Galveston and now features a new exhibit

After traveling through the Houston Ship Channel in 2022, The Battleship Texas is back in Galveston with a new exhibit to celebrate its legacy.

The Galveston Railroad Museum and Galveston Center for Transportation are hosting the exhibit.

What is Battleship Texas?

The Battleship Texas is the last remaining dreadnought battleship in existence.

It fought in both World War I and World War II and carried almost 3,000 men altogether.

After it was retired, it became the nation’s first permanent memorial battleship and was transferred to the state at San Jacinto Battleground on April 21, 1948, after being decommissioned.

When can I see the exhibit?

The exhibit will be featured at the Galveston Railroad Museum, 2602 Santa Fe Place, and will be on display from Saturday, July 1 until Wednesday, January 31, 2024, according to a news release.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.

The exhibit was presented in collaboration with The Battleship Texas Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

What will the exhibit be about?

The exhibit will share the story of The Battleship Texas and her travels throughout her 111-year career.

The ship currently is undergoing renovations while docked at Gulf Copper Drydock and Rig Repair in the Galveston Ship Channel.

How much are tickets?

Admission to the exhibit is free for children under the age of 2 years old.

Tickets cost $6 for youth between the ages of 3 and 12 years old.

Admission for adults costs $12, but a $9 discounted ticket is available for seniors and those who serve in the military.
