Conroe City Council has approved a $1.7 million incentive agreement with Hyundai Welding Products. The firm is planning a new $23.4 million production facility in the Conroe Park North Industrial Park.

The Conroe Industrial Development Corporation board approved the sale of 7.7 acres in the park to Hyundai for just under $900,000 in May 2022.

According to information from the company, it will manufacture flux-cored welding wires and stainless-steel flux-cored welding wires to serve the North American and Canadian market. Flux-cored welding is a welding process.

The company will employ 24 employees over the term of the agreement which begins in January 2027 and ends in December 2033.

The development in the city’s industrial park has been steady.

"The number of permits issued is a solid indicator of the economic climate in Conroe," said Nancy Mikeska, assistant city administrator and director of community development. "When the number of permits goes up it is good news because it means more commercial projects and more residential projects are underway."

Among those projects, construction on an $18 million Carmax Auto Superstore in the industrial park is scheduled to begin in November. The project will span about 40 acres and will include more than 148,000 square feet according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration.

In May the city's industrial development arm approved a $1.4 million land sale to St. Louis-based Core & Main.

Danielle Scheiner, executive director of the Conroe Economic Development Council, said the company is purchasing 15.2 acres in the park.

Core & Main is a specialized distributor to municipalities, private water companies and professional contractors with a focus on water, wastewater, storm drainage and fire protection products and related services.

A timeline for the new facility was not available.
