A man working construction on a manhole on San Antonio's Westside was killed on Tuesday, June 13, according to officials from the San Antonio Fire Department. The construction incident occurred in the 5100 block of Rogers Road in the Westover Hills area, according to an article published by KSAT 12.

KSAT 12 spoke to the construction contracting company the man — who the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to MySA has been identified as 51-year-old Shawn Pedregon — worked for and said Pedregon was trapped after a section of shoring was compromised, which resulted in the sides of the hole collapsing.

Pedregon then either fell or had a partial collapse on him in the 15-foot deep trench where he was working. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, SAFD said.

This isn't the first time this year a fatal incident at a San Antonio construction site has occurred. A worker was killed at a construction site on San Antonio's Far Westside, in April. Workers on the job went to unload pipes, which were stacked on top of one another, when a large unstable metal gas pipe fell off a truck and landed on the construction worker. The man, identified as 52-year-old Carlos Hernandez-Alvarez, died from blunt force trauma and crush injuries.
